Bio

Christy Finn enjoys a night out.

A Southern California native, Christy Finn was born to a pair of Filipino immigrants in October 1983.  She has two older brothers and resides in Los Angeles county with her lovable but mischievious dog Duchess.  Most days, Finny works full-time in Orange County.  In her free time, she attends comedy shows, hockey games, and blogs about hockey or her life as an aspiring writer.

In the third grade, Christy was adverse to reading and less interested in writing.  With great dramatics, she protested the mandatory monthly book reports forced upon her by her teacher Mrs. W.  Determined to not let their daughter escape elementary school as a dunce, her parents dragged her to the library, nudged her into an aisle, and refused to take her home until she picked a book.  Or something like that.

Reluctantly, Christy began reading a series about a girl with a penchant for solving mysteries at the turn of the century.  After that, she stumbled across the Sweet Valley Twins series and Roald Dahl books.  Later, she’d read about castles that came to life, the Wakefield twins in high school, a Goosebump or two, a Nancy Drew here and there, and even a Babysitter’s Club novel once in a while.

She found book reports to be uninteresting and set out to write her own stories.  Thankfully, all evidence of those early attempts at writing manuscripts have been lost.

In high school, Christy read her first romance and the proverbial light bulb lit up!  This, she thought, was what she was meant to do!  She wrote short stories, two long-form fanfictions, and one shockingly terrible manuscript before she graduated in 2001.

She continued to write short stories and serial fanfiction throughout her college years, and attempted many manuscripts that fizzled out before she could get the hero and heroine to their happily ever after.  Torn between a sense of longing to become a published author and the distinct sense that she simply didn’t have enough life experience to write the kinds of stories that interested her, Christy changed her lifestyle and put writing on the backburner.

Her focus became the completion of her bachelor’s degree in English – which she earned in 2005.  Then, she packed up, moved the fifty miles to Los Angeles and entered the workforce full time.  A year of adventures later, she began graduate school, joined a local culturally based sorority, moved home again, moved out again, loved, lost, and got published in another medium thanks to her avid interest in hockey which led to a three-year sports blogging stint and multiple (mis)adventures.

Finally, at age 25, Christy has decided to stop her procrastinating and actively pursue her dream of becoming a published author.  She has been a member of the Romance Writers of America since 2006, and is a member of the Los Angeles Romance Authors chapter, the East Valley Authors chapter, and the Chick Lit Writers of the World online chapter, the Fantasy, Futuristic, and Paranormal online chapter, and the Young Adult online chapter of the RWA.

About this blog

Christy Finn is a 26-year-old super-heroine residing in Southern California somewhere between Los Angeles County and Orange County. Her amazing sidekick is a Pomeranian-papillon mix named Duchess because, well, she rules. When Finny escapes from her undercover job in academia, she spends her time reading, writing, and watching hockey games. Oh, and she goes on missions to save the world. Of course. This is why she is often sleepy and cranky. Give her coffee and chocolate, and she'll rejuvenate in a matter of minutes. Her current project is a YA paranormal to-be-determined, and her goal is to make PRO status start submitting her manuscript to agents by the end of 2010. She's been a member of the RWA since 2006 and prefers to keep her true identity hidden (so as not to have bad guys chasing her all over SoCal, natch).
